I eat yogurt every single day. In fact, it’s one of the only foods that I rarely go a day without (besides peanut butter, because… peanut butter). Since I eat yogurt so often, I’m pretty picky with the types that I choose, while also trying to mix things up occasionally! One of my favorite go-to brands in Dannon Light & Fit. They have multiple yogurt options – satisfying my two key criteria: protein and less sugar – that come in multiple flavors, so that no matter what I’m looking for, I can always find it.
Here’s why I love yogurt for any type of diet pattern.
I don’t follow a vegan or vegetarian diet pattern but, by taste preference, just don’t eat a lot of meat. So, I need to make sure I get enough protein from other foods. As someone who’s also active and exercises first thing in the morning, yogurt is my usual go-to for protein post-workout. Having some protein (and carbs!) after a workout is crucial to refuel and build our muscles. Honestly, I don’t even know what I’d have in the morning without my yogurt! I pack a cup of Dannon Light & Fit to have with some high fiber cereal once I get to my desk pretty much every day (seriously – my intern can attest to this!).

Finding a yogurt with quality nutrition stats and ingredients is tough. In fact, it’s one of the more common questions I get from clients regularly. There are a few key things I look for in a yogurt: 1) protein, 2) less added sugar, and 3) good flavors (it’s so important to also enjoy what we’re eating after all!).
Take a look at the vanilla flavor (a go-to of mine) for Dannon Light & Fit Original Greek yogurt. For this nonfat Greek yogurt, per 5.3 oz. it has a whopping 12 grams of protein, 7 grams of sugar and tastes amazing. Similarly, if Greek yogurt isn’t your thing, the Light & Fit Original Regular vanilla nonfat yogurt stacks up pretty well too: 5 grams of protein and 9 grams of sugar per 5.3 oz., and also an amazing taste.
The Bottom Line
Yogurt is an easy way to get quality protein, especially if you don’t eat meat. It’s portable and easy to take on-the-go, goes well with just about anything (I love it with cereal and/or fruit) and makes a perfect breakfast or snack. Look for options – like Dannon Light & Fit – with protein (at least 5 grams), a reduced sugar content and good flavors that will keep you both full and satisfied.
